There are several types and brands of isinglass, such as Strataglass and polycarbonate. Generally, the thicker and higher-quality materials allow for better results and longer-lasting performance. However, when isinglass begins to show signs of discoloration (typically yellowing or browning), cracking, or flaking, replacement is often the best solution to restore the look and function of your yacht’s enclosure.

Recommended Isinglass Maintenance

At HLY Yachts, we typically recommend that our clients have their isinglass panels buffed and polished every six months. This regular maintenance helps remove minor scratches and scuff marks, restoring clarity and maintaining the like-new appearance of your panels. With proper care, your isinglass will not only look better but also last significantly longer.

It’s also essential to apply UV protection to your isinglass panels on a monthly basis. UV protection helps prevent discoloration, brittleness, and premature aging caused by sun exposure.

Unfortunately, many boat washers overlook this step and simply rinse the panels with water—a costly mistake that can drastically reduce the lifespan of your isinglass. Consistent professional maintenance and proper UV treatment are key to preserving both the function and appearance of your yacht’s enclosure.
